In yesteryear, 1953 Queen Elizabeth the 2nd had her coronation ceremony in Westminster Abbey in London England. It was at this time that television sales increased because people who could not attend wanted to get a taste of the magic. Next year when Price William marries his bride to be, rumors abound that the wedding will be in 3D!

The Rumors continue to flow, as the Wedding is to be broadcast in Cinemas in 3D and a live 3D TV stream. This could be what companies who have heavily invested themselves in 3D technology, such as Samsung, LG and Sony salivate for increased customer acceptance.

Last month industry leader DisplaySearch reported that in 2010, total sales to the end user are only estimated at a paltry 2.5 million units sold. The American and Canadian market account over for 60% of total 3D TV’s purchased.

Really, the biggest hurdle thus far has been the price, most LED 3D TV’s that are above 46 inches range in the $3000 mark, while normal HD TVS are around $1200. Hopefully if the Wedding does get broadcast in 3D, it would be the stimulus the industry needs in order to sell more units, especially in the UK.
