Toshiba to Pursue With Passive 3D Tech Only

The Consumer Electronic Expo held recently did indicate that Toshiba is one company to look out for so far as 3D TVs are concerned. They had put up on display items like 3D laptops which did not require glasses to wear. There are also the 4K 3D TV sets that the company is coming out with. It all indicates a Toshiba 3D year ahead.

The CES also indicated that so far as base technology goes in the 3D world, it is either active or passive 3d technology only. For new comers, this means the process in which 3D effect is created for viewers on a 2D medium.

Toshiba is going the passive way is clear from a notice that came up on a Consumer Report story which says: “It’s [Toshiba] dropping active 3D by moving all its 3D models to passive technology.”

The major difference between active and passive viewing is that in case of active 3D tech, one is required to don those heavy glasses which are run on battery. There is also a flickering that viewers would experience in active 3D viewing. Not to mention active 3D glasses aren’t exactly pocket friendly either. This is not so in case of passive technology based 3D viewing.

The main negative aspect that is heard about in case of passive technology is the poor picture quality due the limited resolution that this technology works in.

The viewer therefore has to choose between clarity and comfort.

There is of course study that is going on to improve the clarity also in case of passive technology. But as of now HD pictures and passive TV sets are not on the same platter.

Toshiba is probably going for the passive technology in their TV sets for they assume people would prefer the comfort more than the clarity.

The Toshiba 3D TVs would also be in the smart TV category. Which means that not only would they be meant for viewing TV programs but also for web browsing and other applications.
