To activate ones 3D services for viewing on the 3D TV does not require any activation formality or information of the TV set at the customers end. Sky 3D has been requesting the details of the 3D TV held by the customer quoting as an information they need to activate the 3D services to their TV. It appears the only reason Sky could be asking this information is to share the same with its business partners or affiliates.

The serial Number of the TV, the exact detail that Sky is requesting for gives out the make, Model and the associated technical specification of the set. Features on the TV would be easily worked out by the person having this detail and therefore target the necessary audience only for further advertisements.

The manager from Sky agreed that this detail was not a necessity for activation of services and that they were storing this information for market study purpose only and also assured that same is not being stored with the client’s individual details.

It is not advisable to give out the serial number details of the 3D TV to anyone for that matter.
