The US TV viewers have a dedicated channel for VOD in 3D format. The channel service provider is SENSIO Technologies. There is also Starz Digital Media which creates 3D movies in the US. The two have joined hands for the content to be aired over the VOD channel provider’s network.

The channel named 3DGO! would have the 3D content for distribution by fall of 2012 for viewers in the US.

Viewers would need a 3D capable TV set that is compatible for SENSIO Hi-Fi 3D technology. Viewers would get access to Hollywood movies in 3D format as well as Documentaries via this channel. Some of the titles that are currently listed in the MoU are Piranha 3DD, Bait 3D, Hoodwinked Too! Hood vs. Evil, and Spy Kids: All the Time in the World.

The technology that SENSIO uses for its Hi-Fi 3D is the frame compatible one which is proprietary to them. This delivers high-fidelity stereoscopic images while using the conventional 2D channels. The application is to be installed on a TV set with 3D capability. A simple connection to the 3DGO! Service would provide the viewer with the content in 3D and will open up a huge library to the viewers who won’t be required to pay any subscription separately for access to the library.

“We are thrilled that Starz Digital Media is getting on board with us to launch the first dedicated 3D VOD channel,” said Richard LaBerge, SENSIO executive vice-president and CMO. “With select 3D titles from The Weinstein Company and Anchor Bay Films now secured and under licence for rental, we are more determined than ever to realise our promise to address the lack of 3D content on the market and to support our SENSIO Hi-Fi 3D customers with the best library of 3D content.”
