LG will soon have company in the Passive 3D TV sphere with another big name company Panasonic all set to launch a 3D TV based on the Passive 3D technology. To be available in 32, 37, 42, 47 and 55 inch display area, the Viera ET 5 3D TV boasts of IPS LCD panels of the same type that we have come to see on the Apple iPad tablet device. What’s more, the LCD panels are a Panasonic in-house development and come with all the usual goodies that we have adored on the iPad. These include a wide 178° viewing angle, low power consumption and a faster response time.

However, on the flip side, the Viera ET 5 has a lower 720p resolution 3D content which is far from what we get to see on a active 3D tech based TV. Having said that, the Viera ET 5 3D TV still retains its appeal owing to a supposedly lower price tag that the TV will sport. Panasonic is yet to reveal the pricing for the TV though that it won’t burn a hole in a pocket is evident in what a company executive revealed as the TV being pushed as a “entry level 3D TV” for “casual 3D users”.

When you say 720p what exactly do you mean? as normal passive sets would reduce to 540p, but due to the way the brain works effectively be 1080p when viewed from the correct distance, this would mean that the effective resolution of the panasonic would be 1240p when watching 3d movies, making it better than all other 3d televisions resolution-wise
