LG introduced the massive 84 inch 3D LCD TV with an equally impressive 4k resolution as it had announced prior to the show. However, its still a matter of speculation if the 3D TV would be lossless as LG has claimed it would be. This specially so as it is going to be based on passive 3D TV technology.

The company rep at the event has confirmed the shipping date of the 3D TV as June or July for the US market though the price has yet to be decided. Labeled the LG 84LN9600, the set would have the distinction of being the largest screen sized 3D TV to be sold in the US. Currently, this record is held by Sharp with its 80 inch sized TV set.

The normal TV sets has 1080p resolution which translates to 1920 x 1080 pixels. The 84 inch LG 3D TV ups the ante by boasting of a massive 3840 x 2160 pixel resolution, which has led to the birth of the term 4K resolution. LG though is using the term UDTV or Ultra definition TV, for this set. Company rep added during discussions that LG was in the process of producing lossless TV sets using their passive technology which had already shown its ability to produce quite sharp images.

3D TV sets which are based on passive technology, uses the principle of sending half of 1080p to each eye. This method is called the film pattern render (FPR). With the present sets using this technology lines and jagged ones at that have been a problem while visualizing the screen. With the 4K resolution that LG claims with its set, it can be expected that this problem would not be experienced. This is so as the set would now be able to send a full 1080p resolution signal to the eye in each case.

As far as 2D programs go, there should not be much of a difference as the resolution of 4K should be more than enough in this case.

There is still some grey areas as far as intricate know how of the set goes. Like, what sort of LED backlight technology would be used in the set? The name suggests it would be like that of the full array local dimming LED TV sets, but that’s not sure. What is sure though is that the LG set has taken the design features of the 2012 LM9600 Nano as also the four way MagicMotion remote and voice control features of the set.
