2102 would witness a new form of cloud gaming service for 3D TV users thanks to the joint efforts of LG Electronics and Gaikai.

The networking hardware and technology has been developed by Gaikai who has been on this project for past three years. The technology offers high speed network over which games could be delivered with no additional hardware required at the gamers’ end. Users in possession of LG’s Smart TV sets would be able to log in from their sets to this network and have access to the entire range of the latest games thereon.

VP of TV Product Planning Group at LG Electronics, Taeg Il Cho said, “We care passionately about delivering the best content and most premium experiences possible for our valued customers. The ability to have award winning games that run on much more powerful hardware in the cloud than today’s PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 made this a must-have feature for our televisions and future devices.”

Gaikai has also teamed up with game publishers like Best Buy, Capcom, Ubisoft, Walmart, and Electronic Arts to enable streaming their games to the internet users through the retailer’s online portals. The retailer is able to offer a small part of the game to interested users as a trial to garner their interest. Once the user is interested, they can purchase the entire game via the same site.
