Haier introduces “completely wireless” 3D TV
Visitors at the CES 2012 had the opportunity to view a TV that was wireless in the literary sense of the word. The TV was based on the Wireless Home Digital Interface (WHDI) technology where the content and the magnetic resonance as well as power to the TV are all transmitted wirelessly. The prototype that was on display was made by Haier — a Chinese company and it was a 3D TV of 55 inch dimension. No information of if and when the company would go for a commercial release of the prototype, was made available.
This set is the largest of WHDI prototypes that have been seen till now. And to reiterate, the video data, electricity et al goes remotely to the 3D TV.
The receptor element of the set is placed at the bottom of the TV and the transmitter is located in the stand that the TV rests upon. The two are distanced by about 8 inches.
