Experts Predict 3D TV Growth Rate To Slip in 2012
3D TV has been making steady inroads into the home theater sector with an expansion of its present base throughout this year is predicted by industry sources. The same sources however mention that the rate of growth would be slightly slower as top makers of such TV are shifting their focus towards the Smart TV sets.
Demand for 3D TV sets has increased in the Western European market as well as the Chinese market. This would fuel the outreach of the 3D TV sets to 20 percent this year from 10 percent that it registered in 2011.
So far as the Chinese consumers go, 3D TV sales there is being fuelled by the advertisement being carried out by big time TV makers Samsung and LG. There is also the local TV makers of the country who also are part of the campaign which experts say would make 3D TV reach a figure of 25 percent houses having the set as against 15 percent houses that had the set in 2011.
The local 3D set makers in China have even come up with CCFL based sets which are having great impact on the 3D market there.
LG with their passive technology based 3D sets are therefore adding further competition to Samsung as the cost is lower. Samsung, on its part has come up with shutter-type 60Hz 3D TVs to ensure it remains competitive against both LG as well as the local crop of 3D TV makers.
Comparing the price of the 3D sets a year earlier one would find the drop by 7pp in case of the sets based on active technology and those on passive technology registering a drop by 3 pp.
