Discovery, BSkyB and Virgin Media join to beam 3D TV shows outside US

Discovery Networks have now struck a deal with BSkyB and Virgin Media to create TV shows with 3D content that would be available for viewers outside of the US as well. Their current titles that are being aired only in the US are the Mythbusters and Deadliest Catch.
Their TV programs would include content that be based on natural history, engineering, extreme sports and crime.
Sky and Virgin Media as the main distribution partners for Discovery in the UK. They are going to now make available programs like the Safari in 3D format made by Renegade Pictures and also a 60 minute show broken into 10 minute duration which has been filmed at Wobum Abbey.
Tigress Production is also planning to film another wildlife show titled the Beautiful Freaks and this would be filmed in Namibia. The show would be hosted by Nick Baker a Discovery Channel regular anchor.
Another joint venture between Discovery, Sony and IMAX in US would also air shows with extreme sports content. This joint venture has been named as the 3NET. The total hours of broadcast that Discovery plans to air has not been announced as yet.
Susanna Dinnage, general manager of Discovery UK and Ireland, is the main person behind these deals being struck between the different agencies. She has taken up the post in September last year.
In her words, “These are substantial and ambitious deals that will enrich the 3D experience of anyone who has Sky and Virgin Media’s 3D services.”
