Those keenly awaiting this year’s Australia-England Ashes series are in for a nice surprise, the entire series will be broadcasted live as usual of course but this year its going to be in 3D. This was revealed by Channel Nine sources, who said the addition of the third dimension will make this hi-tech coverage of the prestigious cricket series, something that has never been attempted before. However, Channel Nine also added the 3D aspect would be limited to ‘some action’ and ‘not the Tests themselves.’

This would mark a revolutionary shift in cricket coverage after Channel Nine had also broadcasted this year’s edition of the Origin series which marked the first sports event in Australia to be covered in 3D.

“There is a lot of pressure on us to make it the best Ashes ever. The State of Origin really helped, a number of the Australian cricketers saw the different things we do there,” Steve Crawley, the head of sport at Channel Nine said.

“We won’t be doing the Ashes Tests in 3D but there is an aspiration there to do something during the summer of cricket in 3D. We are changing a lot of things. We have got new graphics we are still working on … they will be a lot different from what people have seen on Nine since 1978,” Crawley further added.
