Santa Monica has a new 3D hub center with a variety of 3D content being made available at a sports bar there.

As the press release states: “Santa Monica’s Hottest Sports Bar Becomes an Exclusive Hot-Spot for All Things 3D Including Sports Content, Movies and Gaming.”

Celebrities had shown up at the launch event, as per the press release, which showcased 3D technology as the main item.

The bar named “South” is located at 3001 Wilshire Boulevard Santa Monica, CA 90403.

The website where one gets the location details of the bar however has no mention about the 3D equipment that is available there. It is from a report filed by an unknown person in the SoundandVision publication that one can identify this sports bar as the place being referred to.

Brent Butterworth said “I never saw so much 3D TV as I did last night, when I walked into South, Los Angeles’ first 3D sports bar. Everywhere I looked, I could see a Vizio flat-panel TV showing 3D programming—sports mostly, of course, but also games and a couple of Blu-ray Discs. No matter which way I turned, I got a full hit of 3D without having to wait for my glasses to sync with the screen I was viewing. It probably wouldn’t have been practical but for the passive 3D technology used in the Vizio sets.”

One gets to view a range of 3D TVs that starts from 42 inches and up to 65 inches, with all of them being based on the passive 3d technology.

The bar naturally seems to be the place to be given the fact that one can enjoy a movie in 3D or play a game in 3D while sipping his drink of choice.

As per Butterworth’s report the 3D TV sets are controlled by a tablet and all of them are Vizio theater make.

The report writes “All of the TVs and many of South’s other electronic systems can be controlled straight off a Vizio tablet.”

The Vizio product development manager/mobility, Rob Kermode says “This tablet, which costs $269, basically replaces a $1,000 to $1,200 remote system.”

The bar can very well be labeled as one that is technology centric and does indeed call for a visit to for anyone who is in that area. Some glasses free or autostereoscopic is the next suggested step for the bar to think about.

After reading this article, I went to South to check it out.  It’s a cool place for S3D enthusiasts and non-enthusiasts alike.  It’s very much a neighborhood bar atmosphere…the owners (who were tending bar) are very nice.  We went for happy hour but stayed for hours after.  We watched some college football, soccer and boxing on the Vizio 3D tvs.  Nothing compares to watching boxing in 3D…except being in the front row watching it live.  The Vizio tablets are peppered around the establishment. If only, those screens were 3D enabled!
