A 3D TV for two out of every five people by 2014

From 3.4 million sold this year to 42.9 million units by 2014 is the predicted jump that 3D TV set have been given. This way it can be deduced that there would be a 3D TV set being viewed in most every house by the end of 2014. This report has been compiled by DisplaySearch and posted in their column labeled Quarterly TV Design and Features.
The report by DisplaySearch predicts that the present market penetration of 3D TV which is 5 percent or thereof would rise to 37 percent by 2014. Converted to numbers or ratio this means two out of five people would be having a 3D TV set at their house.
The Director of TV Electronics Research at DisplaySearch, Paul Gray says “TV manufacturers have managed to launch products very rapidly. We have seen a full range of 3D TVs in sizes from 40-inches to 63-inches already available, and without a doubt, there will be another wave of new products at the IFA show in Berlin in September.”
The story of the US market is however a bit different. This market saw a rapid acceptance of the LED and LCD technology than the 3D TV. This year there has been two million units of 3D TV into the markets of US and there are just two manufacturers that of Panasonic and Samsung who have been shipping the products there.
Content and the scarcity or drought of it is the main reason for this slow advance or penetration of 3D TV. Sufficient content is just not yet available. There is also the factor of HD and Blu-Ray technology that is another reason for the slow growth of 3D TV.
As per Gray including the content there are other issues like the goggles to be worn and also the power consumption aspect which is extensively high in case of 3D TV sets that need to be addressed.
With the world attention drawn towards need for energy preservation there is need to address such issues immediately if 3D TV is to make any ingress into the living rooms of tomorrow.
