Reports on influx of 3D TV into homes of Western Europe have been predicted to touch 40 percent by 2015. This when 3D TV continues to be sluggish in the United States.

Movies in 3D format have also picked up and perked up the interest of people in Europe while the same is not so in the US. FutureSource Consulting reports that the 3D TV install base will reach 65 million homes — driven more by TV unit replacements than actual consumer interest in the new home entertainment format.

Jim Bottoms, director and co-founder of London-based FutureSource Consulting is of the opinion: “Whether consumers use the feature or not, they will be buying it by default, as the technology will increasingly be incorporated in many of the sets in manufacturers’ product ranges. And where previously there was little 3D content available, the growth and acceptance of 3D is now being driven by the broadcasters. Going forward, the increased availability of 3D content will encourage viewers to engage with and evaluate 3D offerings.”

In the UK as per the reports there have been 10 million new TV sets purchased with just 25 million households in total.

This concludes that every two and a half years a household is going out to buy a TV set as per Bottoms who also went to add that global broadcasting of 3D content has increased threefold since June 2010.

The report also takes into consideration the increasing demand for Blu-ray Disc players in the Western European market where sales of this device has increased with passing years and has therefore been predicted to touch close to a 50 percent mark by 2015. Content for the Blu-ray player is being increased this year as per the report. Currently there are 43 titles compatible for Blu-ray players in the US while it is 37 in the UK and 30 in Germany.

In case of the US, 33 percent of titles that has seen the light of day so far are non-studio content. This adds to the general diversity factor of the scenario and furthers the general interest of the consumer, as reported in FutureSource.
