3D TV sales fails to ignite across the world

A recent survey conducted by Retrevo.com on 1000 people has painted a somewhat bleak picture of the future of 3D TVs. Like its 33 percent of consumers who plan to buy a HDTV next year though its only 22 percent of them that have a definitive plan to purchase 3D TV. Another 23 percent say they can go in for the purchase of a 3D TV if the cost is minimal but the rest, 55 percent of the respondents say they won’t buy a 3D TV even if the cost were only marginally more than that of a 2D TV.

This survey reveals that consumers are least interested about 3D TV though there is an ongoing push from the consumer electronic companies to sell 3D TVs in higher numbers. When asked why 3D TVs are not appealing enough for them to result in a purchase,  30 percent simply rejected it since it required the wearing of special glasses while 40 percent of them believe there isn’t enough 3D programme currently available to warrant a purchase of the 3D TV.

Needless to say, the less then enthusiastic response to 3D TVs among consumers is having an adverse effect on consumer electronic companies around the world.

As a result, Sony has recently lowered its full year TV sales projection from 22 million units to 20 million units reporting an operating loss of $346 million yen in the September quarter. Panasonic, another branded consumer Electronics Company famous for TVs expect a net loss of $5.5 billion this year while the projected net loss of Sony amounts to $1.15 billion in the whole year.
