A research firm named IMS Research has completed a study that see the rising sales of 3D HDTV‘s would also be a major boost for sales of Blu-ray players.

In the most recent edition of Home Media Magazine, a recent survey found out that 13 percent of U.S. and Western European consumers who plan to buy a 3D TV in the next two years, 62 percent also plan to buy a 3D-enabled Blu-ray player.

“Consumers are thinking about content,” said an IMS Research spokeswoman. “They’re considering Blu-ray the method of getting the content.”

At the moment, there is little content of any kind available for 3D owners. The studios have released just a handful of movies in 3D and some TV providers, such as DIRECTV, have launched ESPN 3D. But more 3D content is expected to be released in the coming months, particularly if more people buy 3D sets.
