3D TV Channel Launched in China

1st January 2012 is a special day in China. For not only did it mark a new beginning to a brand new year, but it also marked the launch of the country’s first 3D TV channel. The broadcasting regulator of China — SARFT — the State Administration of Radio, Film, and Television is working on a project with the China Central Television, the State broadcaster of the country and with some other regional TV stations from Beijing, Shanghai and 3 other areas.

China’s broadcast and television symbolizes the launch of such 3D TV channel and is a new milestone in the history and development of China following global development trends according to the statement of SARFT. This will be a trial channel for the time being but the formal operations will start from the Chinese New Year holiday, which is in late January 2012.

This new 3D TV channel will be a special entertainment channel in the audio-visual segment. The effort is there to upgrade the set-top boxes and fuel the development of local technology and standards for 3D TV.
